Colour Emu Software Pak I Update (30.5.97)
******************************************

Hello Colour Emu friends ! With version 3.0 of the emulator, you are allowed
to use comments in the CAS files. This makes it a lot easier to browse in your
virtual tapes directory. All the files you get with this package already contain
a description. It is not perfect, but should do for a start. If you find any
mistakes, please correct them using the COMMENT.EXE tool, and send us your new
version !
So please enjoy this software package, and please also send us the
Colour Genie software you have, so we can make it available to the other
Colour Genie friends. Concerning the copyrights of these programs, we wrote
to all the authors we could find. All of them gave their permissions to make
their software available via the Internet - thank you very much !
Still we couldn't find all of the authors. We assume that they are glad to
see their old software "come to life" again. If you know of any existing
copyrights, please let us know about it. If you are the author or
copyright-holder of any of these programs, and don't want them to be
available in the Internet, please write to us, and we'll immediately remove
it from the web site.

How to load this software
*************************
Some people wrote to us, saying that they never had a Colour Genie computer
of their own, and are not sure how to use it. Maybe you have even forgotten
about the commands (as we did - it's been a long time :-) ). The best way to
start these programs is by using the quick load function from the menu.
Unfortunately some programs don't work with the quick load function. Therefore
we give an explanation of the important tape access commands:
Basically there were only two different kinds of programs - COLOUR BASIC
and SYSTEM (machine code) programs. The BASIC programs had no checksum of any
kind, the machine code ones had a CRC checksum for each block.
You can load a BASIC program by entering
CLOAD <ENTER>
Choose a virtual tape file using the menu.
Machine code programe are loaded by entering
SYSTEM <ENTER>
At the "*? "-prompt, you enter the name of the program as it is stored in the
file itself. With most programs, we used this name for the file name of the
virtual tape, in order to not getting confused with the two names. As soon as
you press <ENTER>, the menu will pop up, and you can choose the desired file.
Please notice that the menu will only appear in the "automatic
cassette I/O" mode. If you simply press <ESC>, Colour Emu will switch to
"ignore cassette I/O" until you switch on the automatic mode again.
